St. Mary's is joined with St. Clement's York. A large lofty building of red brick, St. Clement's was consecrated in 1874 and is perhaps the finest example of Victorian  Church architecture  in York today. It has number of interesting  features amongst which is  its striking  East window. The window represents the Transfiguration,  with the figure of Christ occupying the centre light and the side lights being those of Elijah and Moses. The  window was produced by the  famous artist Capronnier of Brussels.

Other noteworthy features  are the chancel carvings. These include symbols of the passion as well as shields and coats of arms including  the Anchor of St. Clement, the instrument of his martyrdom. One of the most striking features of the panelling on both sides is the carving of the heads of the twelve apostles with appropriate symbols.

Of all the carving in the church  that of the  wooden furniture made by Robert  'Mousie' Thompson and his craftsmen from Kilburn, North Yorkshire is the most  entertaining. Each mouse is hand carved from English oak and they are a particular attraction for children when they visit the church.
